Amazon employee arrested for stealing nearly $300,000 worth of products

Guilty: this is what this head of warehouse operations at Amazon pleaded, tried for having stolen goods for 273,000 dollars, or 242,000 euros, reports the American site the Verge. Working in the city of Charlotte in North Carolina in the United States, this 27-year-old employee would have, specifies the American Department of Justice in a statement, used his access to obtain “computer parts such as internal hard drives, processors and graphics processing units” between June 2020 and September 2021.

He would then have shipped these products to his home, before reselling them to a computer wholesale company in California. During the hearing, the former official pleaded guilty to mail fraud, reports the website of the US Department of Justice: an offense punishable by a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of 250,000 dollars. A date for sentencing has not been set.

Amazon, which is expected to post record quarterly revenue according to the Wall Street Journal, the fourth quarter results to be published on Thursday, February 3, has also been the subject of intense scrutiny by the American authorities since the death of six people caused by a tornado which struck one of its warehouses in last December. The group has also been the subject of a complaint from the American agency in charge of labor law (NLRB), which considers that Amazon would have tried to dissuade employees of a warehouse in Staten Island, New York, from unionize.
